For most applications, you will need only the information described below. Refer to specifications given for individual fan series to assist you in selecting a lightweight Flex-a-lite fan for highway or industrial applications.

Fan Diameter1. Fan Diameter. On fans with any two blades opposed at 180 degrees, measure tip to tip across the fan center. In other cases, measure from any blade tip to the center of the pilot hole and multiply by two.

Projected Width2. Projected Width (PW). This term designates the depth of the fan. Lay the existing fan on a flat surface and measure the height of the blade from the surface.

Mounting Pattern3. Mounting Pattern. Pilot hole diameter (PHD) and bolt hole circle diameter (BHC) of the existing fan determine the mounting pattern. Measurements of the pilot hole must be as precise as possible since fan centering and balance depend on accuracy. Bolt hold circle is the distance between opposing round bolt hold center (BHC). For slotted fans, measure from the inside ends of the slots across the pilot hold (BHC1) and from the ouside ends across he pilot hold (BHC2).

Puller / Pusher4. Puller/Pusher. Direction of airflow is calculated by standing outside viewing the fan through the radiator. If air is pulled through the radiator by the fan (away from you and toward the engine), the fan is a puller. If the fan pushes the air toward you (away from the engine), it is a pusher. Note also direction of an rotation while standing in front of radiator.

adptspacline.jpg5. Adapters/Spacers. While Flex-a-lite's universal mounting pattern permits direct application of fans to the majority of standard fan hubs and fan clutches, some fan application may require the use of one or more spacers to provide proper clearance. An adapter may be required for application to hubs with non-standard mounting patterns.

Note: Vehicle specification (horsepower, engine and chassis make) may be usedful in addition to the above information when ordering fans for highway application.
